The National Elections Commission (NEC) has officially concluded the national launch of the Civic and Voter Education Campaign at Madan Rainbow in Juba, with senior government officials calling on South Sudanese to actively participate in the country’s electoral process.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, Vice President for the Economic Cluster, James Wani Igga, urged citizens to embrace the voter education campaign and prepare to register for the forthcoming elections.
He said the success of the elections depends on the active participation of all eligible citizens, stressing that voting is both a democratic right and a civic responsibility.
“The time has come for our people to register and vote for leaders they believe can serve the nation. Every eligible citizen should participate peacefully and responsibly to shape the future of South Sudan,” Wani Igga said.
The Vice President also encouraged political leaders, civil society organizations, religious institutions, and community leaders to support public awareness efforts to ensure that citizens understand the electoral process.
The Chairperson of the National Elections Commission, Abednego Akok Kacuol, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.
He said the civic and voter education campaign marks an important milestone in preparing citizens for the electoral process and building confidence in the country’s democratic institutions.
“The Commission is committed to ensuring that the electoral process proceeds according to the law and delivers credible and accurate results. Civic and voter education is essential because it equips citizens with the knowledge they need to participate effectively in the elections,” Akok said.
He urged all eligible South Sudanese to register when the exercise begins and to participate peacefully throughout the electoral process.
The Civic and Voter Education Campaign is intended to raise public awareness about voting rights, voter registration procedures, and the importance of participating in democratic governance ahead of South Sudan’s upcoming general elections.
