Nine people were injured in a road accident along the Magwi-Torit Road in Eastern Equatoria State on Thursday. According to South Sudan National Police Service Crime Officer in Eastern Equatoria, Adam Satiro Emmanuel, the incident occurred when a vehicle belonging to Care International collided with a private vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

“Eight people were injured, five of whom are receiving treatment at Torit Hospital. Four others, with more severe injuries, have been referred to Juba for further medical attention,” Satiro said.

“The accident happened at 11:30 am near Imurok, on the Magwi-Torit Road. A Land Cruiser belonging to Care International was involved.

There were 10 people in both vehicles; nine were injured, with only one person unhurt. Two were sent to Juba yesterday, and another two today, due to the seriousness of their condition,” he explained. Satiro attributed the accident to overspeeding and urged drivers to slow down.

“We have registered 10 accidents in Eastern Equatoria since the start of the year. My message to drivers is to be cautious. Don’t speed, especially on these congested roads.

If you’re driving at 40 or 30 km/h, you can avoid accidents, but if you go at 60 or 80, you’re putting lives at risk,” he warned. Satiro made these remarks during a telephone interview with Radio Emmanuel on Friday.
