STAFF- President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed 13 ministers to serve in South Sudan’s new caretaker government following the dissolution of the Transitional Government of National Unity.
The new ministers will oversee key government portfolios as the country prepares for the scheduled December 22, 2026, general elections.
The caretaker cabinet includes officials responsible for the presidency, cabinet coordination, foreign affairs, defence, security, justice, finance, petroleum, trade, information and peacebuilding.
Africano Mande Gadime has been appointed to oversee matters relating to the Presidency and support the coordination of presidential affairs under the caretaker administration.
Martin Elia Lomuro will head the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, responsible for coordinating government business and the work of the Cabinet.
Ambassador Cecilia Adut Manyok will lead South Sudan’s foreign affairs and international cooperation portfolio, overseeing the country’s diplomatic engagement and relations with other states and international partners.
Ayor Akuoch Anok has been appointed to oversee defence and veterans’ affairs, one of the key portfolios in the caretaker administration.
Rizik Zachariah Hassan will head the Interior Ministry, which is responsible for internal security and related administrative affairs.
Dr. Wek Mamer Kuol has been appointed Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, taking charge of the government’s justice and constitutional affairs portfolio.
Obote Mamur Mete will oversee the Ministry of National Security, a key institution responsible for national security matters.
Athian Diing Athian will lead the Ministry of Finance and Planning, overseeing the government’s financial management and national planning portfolio.
Awow Daniel Chuang has been appointed to head the Ministry of Petroleum, which oversees the country’s petroleum sector.
Dr. Labanya Margret will oversee trade and industrial development under the caretaker administration.
Ateny Wek Ateny will lead the information, communication, technology and postal services portfolio, covering government information and the broader communications sector.
Michael Makuei Lueth has been appointed Minister of East African Community Affairs, responsible for South Sudan’s engagement with the regional bloc and related regional matters.
Stephen Par Kuol will oversee peacebuilding affairs; a portfolio focused on supporting peace and reconciliation efforts during the caretaker period.
The appointments come after President Kiir dissolved the Transitional Government of National Unity and established a caretaker administration ahead of the December 22 elections.
The caretaker government is expected to manage state affairs during the electoral transition and until a new government is formed following the elections.
