
The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, arrived in Juba on Tuesday for a two-day official mission aimed at assessing the progress in the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
Upon his arrival, Dr. Workneh held a series of high-level meetings, including a constructive discussion with South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Amb. Monday Semaya Kumba. He also engaged with other key government ministers and stakeholders involved in the peace process.
During his engagements, the IGAD Executive Secretary emphasized the urgent need for the full and timely implementation of the peace agreement, urging all signatory parties to intensify their efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the country.
Dr. Workneh reaffirmed IGAD’s unwavering support to the people and government of South Sudan, highlighting the regional bloc’s commitment to accompanying the nation through this critical phase of its peace journey.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the visit as a demonstration of the strong and ongoing collaboration between South Sudan and IGAD, reaffirming the country’s dedication to working closely with regional partners on matters of mutual interest.
