Unity State Governor, Justice Riek Bim Top, has received significant recognition from neighboring Warrap State for his efforts in promoting peace and unity along their shared border. The praise follows his decision to dissolve the paramilitary group “Terchuong” in Mayom, which had been linked to cattle theft and criminal activities.

In a ceremony held in Juba, the Warrap State community, alongside national and state leaders, ministers, and intellectuals, gathered to express their appreciation for Governor Bim’s peace initiatives. The event highlighted how his actions have positively impacted Unity and Warrap States, fostering stronger relations and greater security.

Mariano Ajuet Akuei, a key speaker at the event, congratulated Governor Bim for “silencing the guns” between the Mayom community in Unity State and the Twic community in Warrap. He hailed this achievement as restoring peace and unity in the region.

Speakers at the event acknowledged key improvements, including better communication networks between the two states, the deployment of forces to curb cattle raiding, and strengthened the rule of law to hold criminals accountable. Infrastructure development was also emphasized as vital for monitoring security and sustaining peace.

In his remarks, Governor Bim stressed the importance of unity and cooperation in maintaining lasting peace, urging continued support for peace initiatives across South Sudan. He emphasized the need for development, education, and infrastructure to support the country’s progress while calling on all to rally behind President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s leadership.

The celebration not only honored Governor Bim’s leadership but also reaffirmed the commitment of Warrap communities to work together for a peaceful, prosperous future, reinforcing the governor’s vision for unity and development.
