Yambio has officially received a new Traditional Hub, an essential center aimed at promoting dialogue, cultural exchange, and reconciliation among communities.
The facility was established with the support of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and was officially handed over on Monday, 27 October 2025.
Overseen by the Azande Kingdom, the Traditional Hub is designed to serve as a meeting place for elders, women, and youth to share ideas and plan for a peaceful and prosperous future.
Speaking during the launch, Tadio Mario, the Prime Minister of the Azande Kingdom, said the new facility symbolizes renewal and unity for the people of Yambio.
“Around the center, freshly planted trees stretch toward the sky, each carrying a story of hope and renewal,” he said. “The trees symbolize unity and stability, reflecting our shared roots and our commitment to stand together.”
Rudolf Esombi Effange, Civil Affairs Officer for UNMISS, described the initiative as a vital step toward peace and sustainable development in Western Equatoria State.
“This effort aims to help communities live in peace and collaborate on shared challenges,” he noted.
Local civil society activist Odeta James welcomed the establishment of the hub, saying it provides a safe space for mediation, dialogue, and cultural activities that help strengthen community ties and mutual understanding.
Resident Hellen Madiga expressed optimism about the transformation the hub could inspire:
“Not long ago, communities in Yambio were divided by hatred, but now we are united in love — this promises real transformation for South Sudan,” she said.
Her words echoed a growing sentiment across Western Equatoria, where many view the UNMISS-supported Traditional Hub as a symbol of reconciliation, hope, and cultural revival.
