A high-level delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC), led by its Chairperson Dr. Mohammed Khaled, met with President Salva Kiir in Juba on Monday to discuss the ongoing implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement.
The talks focused on key obstacles hindering the peace process, including the long detention of First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, and explored ways the AU can strengthen its support for South Sudan ahead of national elections scheduled for December 2026.
Dr. Khaled said the purpose of the visit was to assess how the African Union could contribute more effectively to South Sudan’s pursuit of lasting peace and stability.
President Kiir reaffirmed his commitment to the full implementation of the peace agreement and pledged continued collaboration with the AU to ensure stability across the country.
Foreign Affairs Minister Monday Semaya Kumba echoed the President’s remarks, underscoring the importance of sustained cooperation between Juba and the AU in addressing ongoing peace and security challenges.
