The Vice President for Infrastructure, Taban Deng Gai, has assured residents of Unity State of the government’s commitment to lasting peace during political rallies held in Rubkona town.
Addressing the gathering, VP Taban revealed that First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar had been arrested in connection with the recent incident in Nasir, describing it as a sensitive matter that is now under the responsibility of President Salva Kiir.
“Yes, the First Vice President was arrested in relation to the Nasir incident. It is now up to President Kiir to either release him or allow the matter to go to court,” Taban stated. “This is a minor issue. Let us promote peace and unity.”
He added that the individuals involved in the Nasir fighting were affiliated with Machar and reiterated the importance of prayer and calm as the situation unfolds.
Taban emphasized that his visit to Unity State, specifically Bentiu, aimed to foster long-lasting peace and unity among citizens, urging the public to reject division and conflict.
His remarks come amid growing concern and speculation within the community and on social media, as rumors of renewed conflict circulated ahead of his visit
