The Leer County Football Association in Unity State has elected a new leadership team tasked with organizing sports activities and mobilizing funds to promote football in the region.
In a closely contested election held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, Dak Chan Makuach was elected President of the Association, securing 95 votes. His opponent, Tot Dak Jiek, garnered 60 votes in a competitive race.
Dok Kuong Dang was elected Finance Secretary with 74 votes, defeating two other candidates, Chigoa Yiey Riek, who received 46 votes, and Gai Kai Biel, who earned 33 votes.
Several positions were won unopposed, including Gatluak Diu Yut for Secretary-General, Kai Gatjani Dhar for Information Secretary, Gai Ruop Manguet for External Affairs Secretary, and Ruai Kuok Chop for Social Affairs Secretary.
Yoal Manyang Riek, the Chairperson of the Electoral Committee, officially announced the results, stating that the election was conducted in a free and fair manner, with no complaints from any candidates. He reported that 162 voters were registered, and 155 cast their votes, ensuring a strong turnout.
Tot Dak Jiek, who lost the presidential race, graciously accepted his defeat and congratulated the newly elected President, Dak Chan Makuach.
“To my humble nephew Dak Chan Makuach, congratulations on earning the trust of our people to serve as LFA President,” said Tot. “Though we were on different sides during the campaign, I believe in unity and am committed to working together to achieve our shared goals for progress within this great institution.”
In a victory statement, the newly elected President, Dak Chan Makuach, expressed his deep gratitude to his supporters, acknowledging their unwavering trust and support during the election.

“Your vote has played a significant role in my successful campaign, and I am truly humbled by the opportunity to serve as President of the Leer Football Association,” said Dak. “I pledge to be accessible, responsive, and accountable to the community that has placed its trust in me.”
Dak also emphasized his commitment to transforming the Association, promising to build a more inclusive and united football community.
“Together, we can create a stronger football community where everyone has a voice and a stake in our shared future,” he added.
The Leer Football Association has been actively involved in community sports and recently reached the quarterfinals in the Naath Tournament, held in Juba. This showcases its ongoing efforts to promote football in the region.
