Yambio, Friday, August 16, 2024 – Honorable Rubben Amaai Majok, the newly appointed Commissioner for Mvolo County in Western Equatoria State (WES), was officially sworn in during a ceremony held at the WES secretariat in Yambio. At just 31 years old, Hon. Amaai becomes the youngest commissioner in the Republic of South Sudan, following his appointment by a decree from WES Governor, Hon. Alfred Futuyo Karaba.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Commissioner Amaai pledged to work towards promoting peace and unity in Mvolo County, a region that has been without a commissioner since the suspension of the former commissioner, John Komodi.

In his speech, Hon. Amaai emphasized his readiness for the role, stating that despite his young age, he is fully capable of leading the county. “I am not a small boy,” he remarked, noting that he is married to two wives and will lead with dedication and responsibility.

The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including WES Governor Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba, WES Deputy Governor Richard Box, commissioners, state ministers, and other dignitaries from the state government.

Hon. Amaai’s appointment, which was made through a presidential decree issued by President Salva Kiir on August 7, 2024, follows the suspension of former commissioner John Kum by Governor Karaba. Before his new role, Hon. Amaai served as a Protocol Officer in the Office of the Governor.

His appointment as Commissioner of Mvolo County marks a significant milestone in his career and the political landscape of South Sudan, as he takes on the responsibility of leading and unifying the people of Mvolo
