Community returned to their home after Leer- Mayendit conflict

A high-level donor delegation led by UN Deputy Special Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator Anita Kiki Gbeho visited Leer and Mayendit on 26 November 2025, highlighting significant progress in peace, stabilization, and resilience efforts supported by the RSRTF.

During the visit, donors met with community members, authorities, youth and women’s groups, and peace structures who shared how RSRTF initiatives are reducing tensions, strengthening local governance, and improving cooperation across divided communities.

Delegation members praised the area-based approach, emphasizing its success in promoting localization, linking humanitarian and development actions, and delivering tangible peace dividends.

The mission also included visits to key RSRTF-funded infrastructure such as the Mayendit Police Station, the Community Market Shade, and the Leer Women’s Centre, where women and youth shared stories of safety, empowerment, and improved livelihoods.

Justice actors highlighted better coordination and growing trust in formal justice mechanisms, including a recent mobile court session.

RSRTF programming—implemented by a consortium led by World Relief and partners including UNMISS, IRC, UNIDOR, DRI, and AMA—currently reaches more than 269,000 people across 42 payams in Southern Unity.

By combining peacebuilding, justice, and livelihoods support, the initiative is helping communities withstand conflict, climate shocks, and displacement pressures.

Donors reaffirmed the importance of continued support to sustain gains and reinforce resilience in one of South Sudan’s most fragile regions. The RSRTF is funded by Canada, the EU, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and South Korea.
