The daughter of the late General Majur Dak, who was killed during the Nasir conflict, was denied access to the courtroom as the first trial session of the accused began today.

Abuk Majur Dak, speaking after being turned away, expressed deep frustration.

“Denying access to the victims’ families during the court hearing makes no sense. Who, then, is justice being sought for? Justice that cannot be witnessed by the living is an empty ritual. Justice belongs not to the dead — they have already borne the weight of loss — but to the living, who carry the pain, the memory, and the demand for truth. To exclude them is to silence the very voices that give justice its meaning.”

Eight individuals appeared in court today over the Nasir conflict, including First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny. They face charges of treason and crimes against humanity, all of which have been denied by their defense lawyers.

The proceedings are taking place under heavy security, with limited media access and only the state broadcaster, SSBC, permitted to cover the event.
