Surprise Attack on Akobo County shocked local authorities calling on both the State and National Governments to explain the recent aerial bombardment occurred this afternoon.
Commissioner Puok Nyang Tujiek confirmed that two commercial vehicles traveling from Akobo West to Akobo East were bombed by gunship helicopters.
Commissioner Puok expressed shock over the attack, stating that Akobo County has not been involved in the ongoing violence in Nasir.
“It was a surprise to us because we didn’t know of any issue in Akobo County that would justify an attack by gunships. But shockingly, we received reports, and when we rushed to the scene, we found that two vehicles had been targeted while traveling from Akobo West to Akobo East.”
The commissioner condemned the bombing, stressing that the situation in Nasir should not be used as a justification to launch attacks on civilians in Akobo.
“If there is an issue, it should be addressed through leadership decisions, not through military action involving SSPDF or UPDF gunships.”
According to the commissioner, many civilians have fled to the bushes in search of safety following the bombardment. He urged residents to remain calm as authorities seek answers. As of now, no official information has been released regarding casualties or injuries resulting from the attack.
