At least 13 people have died, and dozens remain unaccounted for after landslides buried 40 homes in six villages in Uganda’s eastern Bulambuli district.
The landslides, triggered by heavy rains on Wednesday night, have left rescue teams racing against time to recover more bodies.
The Uganda Red Cross Society confirmed the recovery of 13 bodies, with local authorities warning that the death toll could rise to 30. The mountainous district, located 280 kilometers east of Kampala, is prone to landslides, especially during the rainy season.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with local volunteers and relief agencies working together to search for survivors and provide aid to affected families. Authorities have urged residents in high-risk areas to evacuate to safer grounds as heavy rains persist.
