A delegation from the National Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology has met with the administration of the University of Bahr el Ghazal to discuss plans for establishing a Digital Agriculture Training Program at the institution.

Speaking to the media after the meeting on Wednesday, Dr. Lina Sarah Matthew, the Director General for Science, Technology, and Innovation at the ministry, said the project aims to strengthen the university’s capacity through renovation of facilities and the installation of digital agriculture equipment.

“The impact of this project is that graduates from the program will gain more knowledge and skills in digital agriculture. After two years, the university will be able to continue running the program independently,” Dr. Lina explained.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Bahr el Ghazal, Prof. Erneo Bernardo, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major opportunity for the people of Greater Bahr el Ghazal.

“The program will introduce modern agricultural techniques and will be offered as a two-year diploma course here at the University of Bahr el Ghazal,” he stated.

The Digital Agriculture Training Program, funded by the World Bank, aims to train more than 300 participants in modern, technology-driven farming methods.

Once established, the program is expected to enhance agricultural productivity and equip graduates with the practical and digital skills needed to advance South Sudan’s agricultural development.
