A high-level delegation from South Sudan’s ruling party, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), has arrived in Kampala to participate in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Delegates Conference.

The SPLM delegation is led by Comrade Paul Logale Jumi, the party’s Secretary General, and was officially received in the Ugandan capital earlier today.

Their visit follows an invitation extended by NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, ahead of the NRM’s National Delegates Conference scheduled for August 27, 2025, at Kololo Independence Grounds.

The SPLM’s participation highlights the strong and enduring relationship between South Sudan and Uganda. It also reflects the shared history and values of the two former liberation movements, now ruling parties in their respective countries.

The visit is expected to deepen political cooperation, party-to-party relations, and mutual solidarity between SPLM and NRM as both nations continue to work together on regional peace, development, and integration.

Uganda is set to hold general elections early next year, with President Yoweri Museveni running for what he has described as his “last term in office.” He faces a key challenge from opposition leader and former musician Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, who is the presidential flag bearer for the National Unity Platform (NUP).
