The government of Western Bahr el Ghazal State has announced an official ban on several harmful alcoholic drinks. This move aims to curb rising crime and social disorder, particularly among youth.

The decision was made during a joint meeting between the Council of Ministers and the State Security Committee on Monday, June 16, following a memo presented by the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Mining.

State Minister of Information and Government Spokesperson, Samuel Nicola Cornelio, confirmed the resolution during a press briefing.

“The banned drinks include Uganda Waragi, Royal Blue, Imperial Distilled Gin, Royal Gin, Imperial Coffee Rum, Boss Gin, Bond 7 Whisky, High & Mix, Jaguar Cocktail, Seven Seven, Flash Vodka Mix, Premium Gin, and Mix Vodka,” said Cornelio.

“This decision is part of our efforts to combat gang activity and criminal behavior often fueled by alcohol and drug abuse,” Cornelio said. “Even prescription drugs like Tramadol are being misused dangerously by youth.”

Cornelio added that violators would face strict penalties: Factories: up to 20 million SSP in fines, Wholesalers: 15 million SSP, Retailers/vendors: 5–10 million SSP and Prison sentences: 3 to 9 months. “We are taking these actions to protect public health and ensure a safer society,” he concluded.
