
South Sudan’s Vice President, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, traveled to Addis Ababa today for a high-level meeting with the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Abiy Ahmed Ali.
Vice President Bol Mel was accompanied by Dr. Marial Dongrin Ater, Minister of Finance and Planning, and Hon. Monday Semaya Kumba, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
During the meeting, Vice President Bol Mel delivered a special message from President Salva Kiir Mayardit and reaffirmed the strong and enduring ties between South Sudan and Ethiopia. The two leaders emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in peacebuilding, investment, and regional integration.
In a statement following the meeting, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said, “I received H.E. Benjamin Bol Mel, who delivered a message from my brother, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit. I had a productive discussion with the Vice President, during which I emphasized the importance of an inclusive regional approach to address the current security and political challenges facing South Sudan.”
Prime Minister Abiy reiterated Ethiopia’s unwavering support to the people of South Sudan, reaffirming the strategic partnership between the two neighboring countries—bound by shared history, borders, and a commitment to regional peace and stability.
