The Chairperson of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) Josephine Achiro, has called on the latest graduates of the Media Development Institute (MDI) to prioritize professionalism and uphold ethical standards in journalism.

Her message was delivered at the graduation ceremony of MDI’s 8th cohort, where 32 journalists received Advanced Certificates in Journalism.

Achiro encouraged the new journalists to contribute positively to South Sudan’s media landscape, emphasizing the importance of respecting the law and fostering a trustworthy media environment.

“The future is waiting for you—go forth with confidence, make your mark, pursue your passions, and build the future you envision,” Achiro said.

Alumni representative Sarah Atoj shared her experience as an MDI graduate, noting how her training helped her secure positions with the national broadcaster SSBC and other media outlets, establishing her as a respected journalist in South Sudan.

The graduating cohort, consisting of 21 men and 11 women, completed a rigorous one-year program that included both theoretical and practical journalism training.

MDI Principal Chance Elizala highlighted that the program provides essential hands-on experience, preparing graduates to enter the field with practical skills they can apply in real-world media settings.

The event marked a significant step in strengthening South Sudan’s media sector, with a new generation of trained journalists ready to contribute to an informed and ethical media environment.
