The United Nations Mission in Upper Nile State (UNMISS) held a two-day workshop on land ownership for stakeholders on January 28-29, 2025, under the theme “Together to Build the Future.
” The workshop brought together 50 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Public Utilities, to discuss land issues and their role in fostering peace and development in the region.
Mr. Alfred Oronno, Field Director of UNMISS in Upper Nile, emphasized the importance of land as a natural resource that directly impacts the livelihoods of individuals and communities. He urged participants to engage in open dialogue to promote better land management practices for the benefit of all.
Hon. James Minylok, Acting Governor of Upper Nile State, also spoke at the workshop, stressing the need for communities to understand the true value of land.
“Without land, there would be no trees, no buildings, no oil – land is the foundation for everything we build,” he said, emphasizing that land ownership and proper management are key to improving the lives of South Sudanese citizens.
