The Deputy Chief Mediator of the Tumaini peace talks, held in Nairobi, has revealed that significant progress is being made in the negotiations, with all parties agreeing on the proposed agenda items.
Amb. Mohamed Ali Guyo, Deputy Chief Mediator, stated that these agenda items include clarifying the names of the negotiating parties, addressing the root causes of conflict.
He examines the relationship between the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and the Tumaini process, particularly regarding issues of repetition and implementation mechanisms.
Additionally, the sharing of responsibilities among parties is a key focus.
Amb. Mohamed highlighted that the first agenda item, regarding the clarity of the negotiating parties, remains a priority.Â
The mediator expressed hope that the parties would soon reach a consensus, allowing them to progress to the next issue.
He acknowledged the complex discussions that had led to this milestone, noting that the mediation process involved resolving “housekeeping issues” and providing a clear context for the Tumaini process.
The mediation team commended the parties and stakeholders for their commitment, congratulating them on reaching these important milestones.
