A member of South Sudan’s Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA), Hon. Jambiel Mani Jambiel, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic death of 14 young refugees who were struck by lightning at Palabek Refugee Settlement in Northern Uganda over the weekend. Hon. Jambiel, representing Mayiandit County, extended his condolences to the affected families and the Nuer community.
“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have suffered the heartbreaking loss of their loved ones in the tragic lightning strike that claimed the lives of 14 Nuer young girls and boys in Palabek Refugee Settlement, Lamwo district, Northern Uganda,” he said.
Hon. Jambiel voiced solidarity with the grieving families, emphasizing that his thoughts are with each of them in this time of immense grief and loss. The children, predominantly from the Nuer community, came from various counties: Lou Nuer (3 children), Mayiandit (3), Mayom (3), Leer (2), Rubkona (1), Koch (1), and Fangak (1).
“No words can adequately express the depth of sorrow we feel for the untimely passing of these bright young souls,” he said. “Please know that you are not alone in your pain. Our community grieves alongside you, offering support, love, and prayers during this difficult time.”
Hon. Jambiel concluded with words of hope and remembrance, expressing that the memories of these children may bring comfort to their families. “May their spirits shine brightly in the heavens above, and may you find strength in unity and solace in the shared memories of the beautiful lives they lived,” he added.
This tragedy has deeply affected the South Sudanese community, which stands united in support of the families mourning this heartbreaking loss.
