The South Sudanese Students’ Union in Uganda held a significant oath-taking ceremony to inaugurate its new executive members.
The event, chaired by Student Vice President Nhial Puoch Nguoth, also saw the swearing-in of members of the administrative tribunal, audit chamber, and anti-corruption commission.
Officiated by Hon. Lawrence Oliver Yasona, the Legal Secretary of the South Sudanese Students’ Union in Uganda, the ceremony attracted prominent attendees, including senior government officials and diplomats.
Among them were Diplomat Lual Akol, the Education Attaché at the Embassy of South Sudan; Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko, Former Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State; Cde. Job Dhuol Maker, Secretary of Finance and Representative of the SPLM Chapter in Uganda.
In their speeches, the newly inaugurated members pledged to serve with integrity, commitment, and diligence while upholding the union’s constitution.
The invited dignitaries stressed the importance of unity among South Sudanese students, the need for outreach programs in remote areas, collaboration with international student organizations in Uganda, and continued government support for students.
They also highlighted the critical role students play in promoting peace and unity both within their communities and beyond.
Diplomat Lual Akol, who was the Guest of Honour, encouraged students to support their leadership, advised against risky social activities like night parties, and reassured them of continued support from both the Embassy and the South Sudanese government.
In a notable highlight of the event, the newly elected President, Natalia Namaku Jackson Jelly, announced the launch of a charity initiative aimed at supporting South Sudanese refugee students in Uganda.
This program will focus on providing educational resources, mentorship, and financial assistance, helping refugee students overcome barriers to education and succeed in their academic pursuits.
