The South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) has officially announced that Fr. James Oyet Latansio is no longer serving as the General Secretary of the organization.
This change took effect on April 15, 2024, marking the end of Latansio’s tenure with the council.
As a result, Latansio no longer holds any affiliation with the SSCC and does not represent the council in any capacity.
The announcement was made public by Rt. Rev. Thomas Tut Pout, Chairman of the SSCC and Moderator of the South Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church (SSPEC).
In his statement, Rt. Rev. Pout confirmed that the SSCC has appointed Tut Thomas Simon Kun as the Interim General Secretary.
Kun will now be responsible for the council’s leadership and representation during this transitional period.
The SSCC, a key religious body in South Sudan, plays a vital role in promoting peace, reconciliation, and unity among the nation’s diverse communities.
The leadership transition comes at a time when the council’s influence is crucial in guiding the country through its ongoing challenges.
While the reasons for Latansio’s departure were not disclosed, the SSCC’s leadership expressed their blessings and best wishes for his future endeavors.
The public and all stakeholders are advised to direct any official matters concerning the SSCC to the new Interim General Secretary, Tut Thomas Simon Kun.
As the council moves forward under the interim leadership of Tut Thomas Simon Kun, it is expected to continue its mission of fostering peace and promoting Christian values across South Sudan.
