One person is confirmed dead, and nine others were injured when a bus belonging to Babeto Company was set ablaze by unknown assailants in a road ambush along the Juba-Nimule highway on Tuesday morning.

Bebeto bus Manager, Puok Matai confirmed to CRN that their bus with 42 passengers on board was involved in a road ambush at around 7: AM.

General Manager of Bebeto Bus Company Puok Matai said the one who died on the spot was the bus conductor, while the casualties with nasty injuries were rushed to Gida Military Hospital for medical attention.

“At around 7:48 AM, we were involved in a road ambush and the bush was shot, so far as a company, we want to confirm that it is true. So far one has died, the bus conductor, 9 wounded, 5 are in good condition and 4 are currently at Giada military Hospital” Puok Matai stated.

Earlier media reports claimed that fifteen people died in the ambush, and several others were injured while several passengers fled into the bushes to escape the attack. The Bus is routed from Juba to Kampala doing their routine business between the neighboring States.

The Spokesperson of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Kong said the attackers remained unidentified, but the military authorities have dispatched security forces to assess the situation at Nyerbede where the incident happened.

The incident has left citizens and travelers deeply shocked and concerned about road safety, especially with Christmas approaching—when many plan to travel and reunite with their families.
