The Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) head Ambassador Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai briefed President Salva Kiir on the progress of the Revitalized Peace Agreement’s implementation.
On Wednesday, the RJMEC chief met with president on significant breakthroughs achieved under the peace deal and preparations for the general elections scheduled for December 2026.
Amb. Gituai outlined key milestones, including advancements in the constitution-making process and the ongoing reunification of armed forces, both crucial pillars of the peace agreement.
President Kiir reaffirmed his commitment to the timely and effective implementation of the extended agreement. He assured Amb. Gituai that adequate resources are in place to support the process and highlighted the country’s stable security environment as a positive foundation for the upcoming elections.
Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, also attended the briefing and stressed the importance of regional and international support in advancing South Sudan’s peace efforts. He conveyed RJMEC’s confidence in continued backing from both regional bodies and global partners.
Dr. Lomuro emphasized the government’s focus on addressing urgent priorities to ensure a seamless transition to the next phase. He praised the constructive collaboration with RJMEC, which has been instrumental in extending the transitional period, allowing for critical reforms and comprehensive preparations for the 2026 elections.
The discussions reflect a shared commitment to fostering stability, governance, and long-term peace in South Sudan.
