The Eastern Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly has summoned four top officials, including the Commissioner of Revenue, over concerns about irregularities in state tax collection and interference from national government agents.

The summoned officials include the Commissioner for Revenue Authority, Commissioner of Police, Director for Traffic, and Director of the Fire Brigade.

Charles Longoli Amute, Chairperson of the Information, Communication and Postal Services Committee, said the decision was made during a sitting to review the 2025/2026 harmonized tax schedule.

“There are still many issues to clarify. Members moved a motion to summon these officials for explanation.” Longoli expressed concern that agents from Juba were interfering in tax operations in the state.

“People from Juba are chasing away state tax collectors. This interference makes our revenue records inaccurate.” He warned that lawmakers would take action if the situation does not improve.

“We are frustrated. If these gamblers from Juba continue, we in the August House will act.” In December 2024, the state parliament formed a committee—led by Speaker Charles Odwar—to engage the national government after the Nimule revenue office was closed.
