Panyijiar County’s Director of Health has reported a severe shortage of malaria medication, with health facilities in the county registering an average of 43 malaria cases per day. The shortage has left hundreds of patients without treatment.
“We are in a critical situation. Our health facilities have completely run out of malaria drugs, and we are registering over 40 cases of malaria daily. Today alone, Ganyliel Primary Health Care Centre recorded 43 severe cases,” said the health director.
He added that UNICEF has been supporting the county by arranging flights to deliver medical supplies. However, the recent flooding has left the airstrip submerged for the past two weeks, preventing deliveries.
“Our main challenge is the flooded airstrip, but the community has joined forces with the county health department to clear the water. Today, we are expecting to receive malaria supplies from Juba,” said Mr. Yap, the county health director.
Mr. Yap appealed to humanitarian health partners for urgent assistance to combat the malaria outbreak.
Panyijiar County is one of the four counties in Unity State severely impacted by recent floods, with many displaced residents living in isolated areas surrounded by water, facing food shortages and a lack of clean drinking water.
