A tragic incident occurred in Wunrok Payam, Twic County of Warrap State, where a newborn baby was found dead in a pit latrine early Wednesday morning.
According to local reports, an unidentified woman is believed to have given birth and dumped the baby into the latrine. The incident came to light around 8:30 a.m. when a caregiver, who had gone to use the toilet at a residential compound, noticed the body of the baby floating in the waste.
“I was shocked when I saw the newborn inside the pit. I immediately rushed back to call others to witness it,” said the caregiver. Together with others, including the compound owner, they retrieved the baby boy from the latrine.
Medical personnel, police officers from Wunrok, and community members gathered at the scene. A local doctor confirmed that the child was a full-term newborn.
The pit latrine was nearly full, which caused the baby’s body to float, making it visible to the woman who first discovered it. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and efforts are underway to identify the mother.
