The South Sudan National Elections Commission (NEC) has officially launched its new website, a vital step to keep the public and journalists informed with accurate and up-to-date information regarding the upcoming general elections.

Speaking at the website’s launch, NEC Chairperson Hon. Abednego Akok Kacuol highlighted the significance of the platform in enhancing transparency and communication with citizens across South Sudan. The website is designed to provide easy access to election-related activities and important updates, particularly as the country prepares for the general elections scheduled for December 2026.

“The launch of this website marks a major milestone for the NEC and for South Sudan as a whole. It will play a crucial role in ensuring that the public is well-informed about the preparations for the 2026 elections,” said Chairperson Kacuol. “We view this as a priority achievement for the commission, and we hope it will be a valuable resource for both the media and the general public.”

The website will serve as a central hub for disseminating information about election timelines, voter registration, civic education programs, and other key electoral activities. Kacuol emphasized the importance of the media in ensuring that accurate information reaches every corner of the country.

“The media plays a pivotal role in this process. We urge the press to use the website as a tool to inform and educate the public about the election activities. We will continue to collaborate with media outlets, both locally and internationally, to ensure that the information shared is accurate and transparent,” Kacuol said.

He also pointed out that the launch of the website marks just the beginning of a broader effort by the NEC to engage the public and promote civic education. As part of the commission’s outreach plan, Kacuol stated that there would be regular opportunities for media personnel to visit the NEC office and gain firsthand access to ongoing electoral activities.

“We want the media to stay connected with us, so they can report on the progress we’re making toward the 2026 elections. This will be a crucial period for our nation, and the media will help guide public understanding and participation,” he added.

The new website, accessible at www.nec.gov.ss, will also serve as a platform for broader civic education, allowing South Sudanese citizens at home and abroad to stay informed about their rights and responsibilities ahead of the elections.

The NEC chairperson concluded his remarks by reiterating the importance of collaboration and open communication during this critical time in the country’s democratic journey. “This website is one of the many tools we will use to ensure transparency and inclusion. Together, we can ensure that the 2026 general elections are free, fair, and credible.”

As South Sudan approaches its first general elections since the formation of its Transitional Government, the new website marks a key step in improving election transparency and encouraging informed participation among all citizens.
