During Voice of Hope Radio’s political awareness program, callers from across South Sudan appealed to the state and national governments to take proactive measures to address the impending famine that is expected to hit the country.
The callers emphasized the importance of providing security for farmers and supporting agricultural development. They also discouraged tribalism and instability, which they believe contribute to the crisis.
The callers urged the Ministry of Agriculture to provide the necessary agricultural equipment and visit rural areas to assess the needs of farmers.
“Self-reliance is key to combating famine,” one caller noted, supporting the idea that people should be encouraged to work toward self-sufficiency.
As several states, including Western Bahr el Ghazal, face the risk of famine, the ongoing conflict and increasing population density due to displacement are likely contributing factors to the food insecurity.
