16 September 2024, Yambio – Former Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, Hon. Elia Richard Box, has called on the people of Western Equatoria to maintain unity, peace, and cooperation in the face of ongoing challenges.
Speaking to a large crowd at Yambio Airstrip, where hundreds of citizens gathered to welcome him, Hon. Box expressed deep gratitude for the warm reception, which he said reflects the positive impact he made during his tenure.
He also conveyed sorrow over his recent removal from office but emphasized the need for unity as the state moves forward.
After his arrival in Yambio, Hon. Box met with the current Governor of Western Equatoria State, H.E. Alfred Futuyo Karaba, at the governor’s residence.
The visit underscored the respectful relationship between the two leaders, signaling a smooth transition of leadership. Hon. Box’s departure from office was formalized by a Council of Ministers Resolution, and his return was acknowledged by state authorities.
In his address to the public, Hon. Box highlighted the detrimental effects of conflict on the state’s progress.
“The issue of fighting in Western Equatoria is holding us back and destroying many things. When there is peace, people can work freely with the government, NGOs, and engage in farming and agriculture without fear,” he said, urging citizens to embrace peace for the betterment of the state.
He also encouraged the people to cooperate with his successor, Hon. Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa, stressing that his removal was part of the regular government rotation, which should be seen as a source of renewed energy and hope for the state’s future.
Hon. Box’s message of peace, unity, and collaboration resonated with many attendees, as he stressed the importance of coming together during this transition period. His remarks were seen as a call for stability and development, key priorities for Western Equatoria in the coming years.
“My efforts as Deputy Governor were aimed at uniting people, promoting peace, harmony, and forgiveness.
This was the purpose behind my visits to the various counties of Western Equatoria,” Hon. Box concluded, reaffirming his commitment to the values of unity and peace.
His return to Yambio marked the end of a chapter in his political career, but also symbolized a fresh beginning for the citizens of Western Equatoria, with peace and development remaining at the forefront of the state’s agenda.
