Three schools in Nimule town were temporarily closed after being affected by heavy rainfall and flooding on Tuesday. His Worship Ceasar Longar Fuli, Mayor of Nimule Municipality, confirmed to Radio Emmanuel 89FM that the schools impacted include Fulla Secondary School, Nimule Model Secondary School, and Green Valley Primary School.
“Some schools experienced flooding in their compounds. As a result, students at Fulla, Nimule Model, and Green Valley were unable to attend classes today. This is a recurring natural issue, as Nimule is situated in a valley,” Mayor Longar said.
The mayor noted that the floods occur annually during the rainy season and often lead to learning disruptions. He emphasized the need for urgent intervention to prevent prolonged school closures.
“This flooding usually takes two to three days to clear. I’ve called a meeting with the affected school administrators to discuss possible solutions. Though I am new in office, this situation requires immediate attention. We are also planning to dig water channels and engage development partners in Magwi County to find sustainable solutions,” he added.
In addition, the mayor revealed plans to engage the eleven Madi clans in Nimule to discuss road development, security, and sanitation improvements within the municipality.
