The Ezra Construction and Development Group has announced an interim 13% discount on the Thermal Energy Tariff, aimed at making electricity more affordable and accessible for citizens across South Sudan.
In a statement, the 13% discount will apply exclusively to the Thermal Energy Tariff, providing immediate cost relief to end-users. It said the adjustment, passed on to the Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO), will benefit both public and commercial consumers.
The initiative is part of ECDG’s broader commitment to delivering sustainable and long-term energy solutions. According to Samson Tekie Ezra, Managing Director of ECDG, the company remains dedicated to providing reliable electricity and ensuring energy affordability across all sectors in the country.
“This interim discount reflects our commitment to ensuring energy is both accessible and affordable for all,” said Tekie. “We are working closely with the Ministry of Energy and Dams (MED) and other key stakeholders under our Multiple Independent Power Producer (IPP) framework.”
Tekie emphasized the importance of the timely commissioning of the Nesitu Power Plant, calling it a critical milestone in realizing the full benefits of the IPP framework. “The Nesitu plant is central to achieving the government’s promise of affordable energy. This discount helps keep the objectives of the Multiple IPP framework on track.”
The company stated that discount will remain in effect from April until the Nesitu Power Plant is officially commissioned and connected to the national grid.
Tekie reaffirmed ECDG’s commitment to collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and Dams and other stakeholders to monitor the energy sector’s progress and implement long-term, sustainable solutions. He also expressed gratitude for the continued partnership and support from the Ministry.
