An eye camp organized in Malakal, the capital of Upper Nile State, kicked off yesterday at Malakal Teaching Hospital. The initiative, sponsored by the Catholic Church of the Diocese of Malakal, attracted between 2,000 and 4,000 eye patients seeking treatment.
Chairperson of the Pastoral Council at St. Joseph Parish, Mr. Obiny Deng, emphasized the church’s dedication to providing humanitarian aid through such camps.
“The Catholic Church of Malakal Diocese coordinated this camp to provide treatment for a large number of eye patients, especially vulnerable groups. This reflects the church’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian work.”
Dr. Kat Deng, Medical Director of Malakal Teaching Hospital, explained that the camp would focus on treating conditions such as glaucoma and trachoma.
Eye patients expressed their gratitude to the doctors, contributing organizations, and the Catholic Church for supporting this vital initiative.
“We are thankful for the care and effort put into this program. It gives hope to those of us who have struggled with vision issues for so long,” shared one patient.
