Donald Trump has won the U.S. election, marking a historic return to the White House. Celebrating a “magnificent victory,” Trump addressed cheering crowds in Florida, saying, “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”
Trump’s path to victory included key wins in swing states like North Carolina, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. Kamala Harris has yet to concede or address her supporters, who began leaving her watch party before the final result was announced.
In addition, Republicans have regained control of the Senate after flipping several critical seats from Democrats. According to the Al Jazeera report Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, is projected to have secured at least the 270 Electoral College votes he needs to return to the White House for a second time after his 2017-2021 term.
Trump, 78, has defeated his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, 60, after a hard-fought campaign, according to the projection. World leaders rushed to congratulate Trump as votes were still being counted after early projected wins in key battleground states. The current result of the vote counted gives Trump a lead with 51.05% while Vice President Harris with 47.46%
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Trump on “history’s greatest comeback.” Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Mao Ning said Beijing would “continue to view and handle China-US relations following the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.”
