The Commander of Division 5 of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), Major General Jiel Mangog, has called on the citizens of Western Bahr el Ghazal to reject tribalism and work together in unity for the greater good of the nation.
Addressing a congregation at Holy Trinity Centre in Wau on Sunday, General Mangog expressed concern over increasing tribal divisions in a state historically known for harmony and coexistence. “Wau was once known for the unity and love shared among its people,” he said. “But today, we see people separating themselves by tribes. This is not who we are—we are all South Sudanese.”
He questioned why tribal hatred persists even in communities that frequently hear messages of love, peace, and forgiveness from churches and mosques. “Why do we still harbor tribal hatred when every week we gather and listen to religious leaders preaching peace and unity?” he asked.
General Mangog urged the public to lay down ethnic differences and come together as one people, united in the pursuit of lasting peace and national development.“Promoting love and peace within our communities is not just a moral duty—it is essential for progress,” he added.
He concluded by appealing for mutual respect among all communities, warning that division and hatred would only hinder the future of South Sudan.
