The Ministry of Health in Unity State has reported a significant decline in cholera cases following the launch of a vaccination campaign. Acting Director General Bany Makol Chany announced that suspected cases have dropped from 11,840 to just 209 within two weeks.
According to Chany, more than 270 deaths were recorded during the outbreak, while over 10,000 patients have successfully recovered. He attributed the sharp decline in cases to the collaborative efforts between the ministry and non-governmental organization (NGO) partners, emphasizing the importance of their interventions in saving lives.
“This remarkable reduction in cholera cases demonstrates the positive impact of the ministry’s efforts and the support of our partners in combating this outbreak and protecting the health of our communities,” Chany stated.
The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing public health interventions to ensure the outbreak is fully contained.
Last week, a distinguished team from the national government, including Vice President for the Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbaggi Ayii and Minister of Health, paid a visit to the state, offering a beacon of hope to health advocates and local communities alike.
Their visit, a significant gesture of support, resonated deeply with those involved in the health campaign and the people directly impacted by health initiatives on the ground.
The presence of such high-level officials underscored the government’s commitment to addressing the healthcare challenges faced by these communities. This visit, marked by insightful dialogues and shared vision, strengthened the resolve of local stakeholders to continue pushing for improvements in healthcare access, quality, and delivery.
The government’s involvement was seen not only as a sign of solidarity but also as a catalyst for future progress in the region’s health sector.
