More than 44,000 Senior Four students across South Sudan have today begun sitting for the South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education examinations. The exams, which represent a major milestone in the academic calendar, will run for nine days.

The Minister of General Education and Instruction, Hon. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, described the examinations as a critical stage for students advancing to higher learning.

“These exams are crucial as the candidates are preparing for university,” Minister Kuyok said.

He also emphasized the need for the timely release of the Primary Eight examination results to ensure the new school year begins without delays.

“Our priority now is to process and release the Primary Eight results so that students can start Senior One on time,” he stated. “Once that is completed, we will proceed to mark the Senior Four papers and submit the results to the Ministry of Higher Education for university admissions.”

Primary Eight pupils completed their national examinations last Friday. The final day of the exams was graced by several senior government officials in Juba, including Vice President Josephine Lagu, the Chair of the Service Cluster, the Governor of Central Equatoria, and several national and state ministers.

Speeches delivered during the event focused on the issue of examination malpractice, which officials said has damaged the credibility of South Sudan’s certificates both within the region and beyond.
